How pricing works

How we get to your number

Six things, in the order a customer asks them.

  • What sets the price

The feet of wire from the panel to the charger, whether the wire runs through open attic or a finished wall, the gauge the run needs, and the permit and inspection fees.

  • The survey visit

The survey has a set fee, quoted when you book, and it comes off the job if you book within 30 days. We measure, open the panel and run the load check.

  • What a package includes

The breaker, wire, conduit, the outlet or hardwired connection, the permit and inspection fees, the load check and clean-up.

  • What it leaves out

The charger, drywall repair and paint, a panel upgrade and a trench through rock, concrete or roots. The quote lists each that applies.

  • How you pay

Half to book the install date, the rest when the inspection passes. Card or check.

  • When you get the number

In writing, after the survey. If the run is longer than the package, it says by how many feet and what that adds.

Price questions

What does the survey visit cost?

The survey has a set fee, quoted when you book, and it comes off the job if you book within 30 days. We measure the run, open the panel and run the load check, then write the quote.

What is not in a package?

The charger itself, drywall repair and paint, a panel upgrade, and a trench through rock, concrete or roots. The quote lists each one that applies to your house, with a price or with the words not needed.

Can my panel handle a charger?

That is what the load check answers. We add up what your house draws, with the central air running, then check what is left on the panel. If there is room, the package goes ahead. If there is not, we show you the options, and a new panel is one of them, not the only one.

Is there a utility rebate?

Your utility may offer one on a home charger. Austin Energy has had a program for its customers, and Pedernales Electric Cooperative and other utilities around Austin set their own rules. Read the current program page before you buy a charger: the rules, caps and charger lists change. We hand you the paperwork the application asks for.

Get the number in writing

Tell us where the charger goes. We book the survey and send the quote after it.
