Utility rebate

Check the program before you buy the charger

A utility rebate is the utility's offer, not ours, and it can change. Some programs accept only chargers on their list, so the order of things matters.

Austin Energy has had a home charger program for its customers, and Pedernales Electric Cooperative and other utilities around Austin set their own. Read the current page for yours, then tell us the program name.

Before the survey

  • Look up your utility on the bill, then its current charger program

  • Check which chargers it accepts before you order

  • Tell us the program name, and we write it on your quote

The paperwork

What we hand you, and what you send

  • An itemized invoice

The charger and the labor on separate lines, with the circuit described.

  • The permit and inspection

The permit number, and the inspection result once it passes.

  • Photos of the install

If the program asks for them, we take them on the day.

  • You submit it

The application is in your name, through the utility's site. We answer questions from the utility if they come.

Rebates, answered

Is there a utility rebate?

Your utility may offer one on a home charger. Austin Energy has had a program for its customers, and Pedernales Electric Cooperative and other utilities around Austin set their own rules. Read the current program page before you buy a charger: the rules, caps and charger lists change. We hand you the paperwork the application asks for.

Which charger should I buy?

One your car's maker or the utility's list supports, and one whose amp rating matches the breaker in your package. Bring us the model before you order it, and we check it against the circuit. We install chargers you buy, and can order one for you at our cost.

Do I need a permit, and who pulls it?

A new circuit for a charger needs an electrical permit in the City of Austin, and the neighboring cities have their own. We apply for it, book the inspection and meet the inspector. Outside Austin we tell you whose rules apply before you sign.

What does the survey visit cost?

The survey has a set fee, quoted when you book, and it comes off the job if you book within 30 days. We measure the run, open the panel and run the load check, then write the quote.

Planning around a rebate?

Tell us the program in the quote request, and we check the install against it.
