Townhomes

Who says yes in a townhome

A townhome adds two questions a house does not have: who owns the wall, and whose meter feeds your garage.

We cannot start without written approval from the HOA or the landlord, so that comes first. The survey then confirms which panel feeds your unit and whether the charger can go on your own meter.

What we ask for first

  • Your HOA's rules for exterior work and parking

  • A landlord's written approval, if you rent

  • Which meter and panel feed your unit

  • The wall or post nearest your reserved space

The steps

A townhome install, step by step

  1. 01

    Step 1: Approval

You send the HOA or landlord letter. We can write the install description they ask for.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Survey

We trace the circuit from your unit's panel, measure the run and run the load check.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Quote

A package, or a package plus the lines for anything a townhome adds, like a longer run to a reserved space.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Permit and install

We apply with the city, install and meet the inspector.

Townhomes, answered

I live in a townhome. Can you still install one?

Often, yes. You need written approval from your HOA or landlord, and we need to know which meter and panel feed your unit. The townhome page lists what we ask for first.

I rent. Can I get a charger?

With your landlord's written approval, yes. Send us the landlord's name and the photo of the panel, and we write the quote in a form you can hand to them.

Do I need a permit, and who pulls it?

A new circuit for a charger needs an electrical permit in the City of Austin, and the neighboring cities have their own. We apply for it, book the inspection and meet the inspector. Outside Austin we tell you whose rules apply before you sign.

Is there a utility rebate?

Your utility may offer one on a home charger. Austin Energy has had a program for its customers, and Pedernales Electric Cooperative and other utilities around Austin set their own rules. Read the current program page before you buy a charger: the rules, caps and charger lists change. We hand you the paperwork the application asks for.
